Cllr Martin Hill gives a full update on road maintenance, major highways projects and future planning applications including pop-up cycle lanes.
Martin says:
"I wanted to update you on the work we've been doing on our roads to keep Lincolnshire moving during the coronavirus pandemic.
"Since the start of the lockdown period, we were determined that essential maintenance on our road network should continue to keep key workers and those making essential journeys safe. So by following government advice, and changing the way we work, we have managed to continue filling potholes, resurfacing streets, repairing footways, clearing drains and gullies and cutting grass verges.
"When traffic on the roads fell by up to 70%, we even managed to re-arrange our work schedule so we could carry out bigger maintenance jobs earlier, without causing disruption to drivers.
"This means we don't have a big backlog of repairs that would slow down the county's recovery now there is more traffic on our roads.
"Work is also continuing on our major highways projects.
"Not only are we currently working to improve traffic flow at the A17/A153 Sleaford Rugby Club junction and Riseholme Roundabout on the A46, but we're continuing to make good progress on our two biggest projects – the Lincoln Eastern Bypass and Grantham Southern Relief Road.
"Work on both of these schemes continued forward throughout the pandemic , so we're still on track for having Lincoln's new bypass open by the end of this autumn and Grantham's new relief road complete during winter 2022/23.
"Elsewhere in the county, early preparatory works for the northern section of the Spalding Western Relief Road will be starting in the coming weeks ahead of starting main construction this autumn.
"And finally, in July, we'll be breaking ground on a major safety improvement scheme on the A46 near Dunholme and Welton, which will see a brand-new roundabout built to replace the current T-junction with Lincoln Road.
"Over the past few months, we've seen a huge rise in the number of people walking and cycling. And as lockdown measures are eased, businesses reopen and more of us return to work, we're keen to help encourage and support people to keep those new habits."
