Vice-President of the Association, Cllr Mrs Judy Smith, has died aged 79. Judy was a long-serving member of both Bourne Town Council and South Kesteven District Council. She was SKDC Chairman in 2016-17 and Mayor of Bourne in 2005-06.
A lifelong resident of Bourne, she was a stalwart of the local party and of the wider community, involved in the Bourne Abbey Church and many charitable efforts.
Tributes to Judy include the following from our Chairman, the Bourne Branch Chairman and the Leader of the District Council:
"I am very sorry to hear of the passing of our Vice-President, Cllr Mrs Judy Smith. Judy was a long-serving and loyal member of the Association and was always helpful and supportive. She will be very much missed."
Martin Trollope-Bellew, Chairman of the Association
"To receive the news yesterday afternoon of Judy Smith passing was such sad news. As Chair of the Bourne Branch Conservative Association we all send our sincere condolences to her family. Judy and I worked closely at SKDC and her in-depth knowledge of the District and of Bourne was inspirational. Judy was just such a lovely lady, her caring, giving nature with a wicked sense of humour will be remembered by us all. Judy was a stalwart of the Bourne Branch, always volunteering to hold our committee meetings at her home. She will be greatly missed by us all."
Robert Reid, Chairman of Bourne and District Branch
"I have known Judy since 2010, when I first worked with her in politics, alongside her late husband John Smith, who served with us as a cabinet member. Together they were great ambassadors for the District and for Bourne. The wide range of knowledge she was able to apply due to her vast experience will be a loss to the Council and I will miss her personally for her support and for the contribution she was able to make to the lives of residents in South Kesteven."
Cllr Kelham Cooke, Leader of SKDC
